Coach great work with your team. Looks like the guys are working hard. My only suggestion regarding the cleans from the floor, some of the guys had ok form, some were leading with there hips, which as weight increases so the risk of low back issues. One exercsies that has helped some of my athletes to develope LB strength as well learning to move your hips and shoulders together is a pull from the floor to the above knee hang clean position, with a pause. I recommend using light weight and make sure the athletes keep their shoulder over the bar and maintain the arch in their lower back. Have your assistant coaches view from the sides of the athletes and make sure hips and shoulders rising at the same time. The other suggestion is working on flexibility of the shoulders and wrist on some your athletes to get their elbows up during the rack position of the clean. Hope what I suggest is helpful. Keep up the good work and good luck with your season.

he was telling one of our old assistants, who works at NMMI,  who lived with him when he was here that he has an office job and every morning he still power cleans, squats, and does military press 4x times a week, along with his jump rope routine... that dude is unreal at jump rope, he must horrify guys in the office

Well if I can get my kids to have perfect technique its less work you have to do if they get the privilege of training under you and playing at Fordham. How long have you been at Fordham? A good friend of mine played there. His last year I believe was 2008.

not all federations use the "pause" technique, just as all don't use the same depth for a good or bad lift.  I was using the squat as a vague example of how athletes are different in lifting form, i guess you missed that part.  The obvious goal is perfect form, if you lift at 70% your form should be perfect, but if are not an elite lifter which will go first your strength level or your technique? usually your technique.

I didn't say anything was wrong with the squat form I was just noticing some kids hyperextend their head/neck back and they will get more power by packing the neck and keeping the spine in a neutral inline position. I feel you should strive for perfect form on every lift so when you max out its just go in there and lift. Of course there will always be a little give some place. But I'm pretty sure in powerlifting you cannot bounce the bar like that and have to wait for a press command.

we teach like most powerlifters, to push through the bench not the bar away from you, to me if the hips come up a little bit so be it, again as the weight goes up something is going to give, thats why to us it is a max, if you are striving for "perfect" form on every lift good luck ever seeing where your guys or you truly are... you have different body types and different skill levels, plus at the end of the day its a means to an end.... some kids have supper tight hips and can't get to below parallell on a squat, it happens everywhere I've been... Fordham, Temple, BC, even the olympic training center... but at the end of the day you have to get the kid stronger and improve his mobility, to me thats the challenge, even in competitive power lifting there are different standards for white and red lights, its crazy bro, so many ways are considered proper from...
