Coming Full Circle

This time of year always reminds me of why I enjoy being a strength & conditioning coach so much. Of course it’s exciting to help athletes improve, compete and reach their potential, but the past week has really brought out the real reason I’ve been able to stay passionate about this for so long.

Most of us don’t get into this field to build relationships or to make an impact on people’s lives. More often, we become enthralled with the world of athletics and the excitement that… Continue

What is going on in high school weight rooms?

At this time of year, I get to see what’s going on inside a lot of high school weight rooms, and I’ve got to tell you something – it’s downright scary. The four things I see most often are:

1. Lack of supervision

2. Poor technique

3. Poor effort

4. Incomplete routines

Lack of supervision – The problem here usually is not that there isn’t a coach around. The problem is that the coach simply isn’t doing anything. I’ve said it a million times, and I’ll repeat… Continue

Jim,

I saw on your twitter page info about a presentation you gave about performing the clean without the catch. Do you have any more info on this? I am a high school football coach at Grand Blanc.

Thanks

Hey, Sorry I did not get back with you. I read your article in Michigan Hockey! I think it is great you have a hockey treadmill, they are very effective in gaining speed. I am in Cadillac, attempting to run boot camps in this economy. I also have a small weight room in an ice arena, currently training high school athletes. I would like to visit your facility some day, maybe when the snow is not so deep!

Jim, Thanks for the ass kicking today from the Ultimate Challenge crew. Try not to embarrass me too much on your site, although I guess that would be my doings. I'm hoping I can get another shot at it in the coming months at TPTC. Thanks again.

Hey Jim. Great to hear from you. I recently left Velocity after working on their corporate side for a few years and am currently in a fitness role for a private medical practice in Southern California. I hope things are going well for you, I still refer folks to your book. When is the next one coming out?

Thanks Jim. I stopped by your web site, it looks very good! I wanted to attend the S&C clininc but couldn't. Looks like that was informative also! Looks like you are doing a lot of great things! Hope to stop by and see your facility some day.
