The Child Obesity Plague

In a recent study released today, 1 in 6 children are considered "obese".  This isn't a new revelation and I'd venture to say that the results of this study made few raise an eyebrow given that the sight of overweight children seems to move closer to the norm with every passing year.

I'll stop short of saying that it's become an "acceptable" norm as I'd like to continue to believe the percentage of society that doesn't believe overweight children is acceptable still…

Jimbo does not want FSU strength numbers going public

Florida State offensive coordinator / tight ends coach James Coley says the program is done releasing forty times and strength statistics.

Coley explained at a recent Seminole Club meeting, “NFL teams use any published times and number they see, and it’s not fair to the kids. A lot of the numbers aren’t accurate, as they’re taken, say at the end of a workout, when the guys are already wore down. Those numbers affect how the NFL looks at them as a prospect, so we’d rather they not get…

Thanks David for a great site. It's a fantastic thing to have a central place for strength coaches of all varieties to congregate and keep each other up to date on the current state of the game.

I'm an Olympic Weigthtlifting coach primarily, but I also strength-coach a lot of kids who play football, baseball, and club sports. I'm always on the lookout for advice on training, nutrition, etc from other coaches who have different experience bases. You can never stop learning, and learning from each other is one of the best ways do it.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the add. I am currently an Assistant S&C Coach at ECU looking for a different Assistant position. From looking at your website I have had the experience of viewing a wide variety of programs around the country. Again thanks.

Basically I have taken all of my training in strength & conditioning, corporate fitness, personally training...etc and formed a company that focuses on training as a lifestyle no matter if your a athlete or a regular person trying to get in shape.

I think one of the things that we hate to think about, but is needed, is facility & equipment upgrades. We are an olympic based program and are primarily on the platforms, but recruiting and advancments require us to purchase new toys. It is a lot easier to say to my AD, I need this piece of equipment and it cost x amout of money, he then says why, and who else has it. If you guys did a virtual tour, or even just photos of different facilities I could say we need these things, because TCU has them, or a top 25 team has them. Makes life a little easier for us if we have something to compare to.
Just a thought.
I think the site is great though

Things are well, just going to take some time to get the old bad habbits out of there system (Juniors & Seniors). Both on the field and in with me.
How are things with you?

How did you get the lowdown on Wake Forest football and their training? I liked that tidbit and went and looked at the link that talked about their strength training philosophy.

Well as an athlete the Olympics were always my goal and even though i didnt quite reach it I came painfully close. I did and do however have athletes, friends, and former teammates that went on to compete both at the Olympics and as professionals in their events/sports.
In my current job, Olympic sports simple refers to those other than football & basketball and since I work with all those other sports I've kinda molded my career around that.
