SPN Partner: ONS Performance

ONS Performance™ has become a nutrition standard for high school, college and professional sport team coaches and athletes. ONS Performance’s notoriety as a top sports nutrition company is largely because it was the first and remains the only sports nutrition company to solely research, develop and design nutritional products that meet the unique nutritional guidelines set forth by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in association with The Committee On Competitive Safeguards and Medical Aspects of Sports Standards and the Center for Drug Free Sport (CDFS). ONS Performance's nutritional products are suitable for collegiate athletics and are permissible under NCAA Bylaw 16.5.2.2 for nutritional supplements*.

ONS Performance nutritional products are specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of athletes to safely support the energy requirements for sport and exercise, as well as, aid in optimizing recovery from training and competition**. Many nutritional company products are premised around the science of bodybuilding or better termed 'body imaging' which focuses primarily on enhancing the esthetics of the body rather than addressing the specific performance and recovery needs of athletes. Instead, you can be confident in the validity and reliability of ONS Performance. Not only is there supportive sport and exercise research paired with designing its nutritional products, but as a Division-I strength and conditioning coach and certified sports nutritionist, Mike Bewley (President, ONS Performance) uses ONS Performance products everyday. As a result, he helps hundreds of athletes from a wide range of sports optimize their health & performance.

What is Critical Reload?

Critical Reload™ is a great tasting, collegiate-compliant, exercise recovery shake based on the latest sports-nutrition research that demonstrates specific pairing of carbohydrates & proteins enhance muscle recovery and restores energy better than consuming each nutrient individually. As a result, Critical Reload's 2:1 carbohydrate & protein blend infuses the muscle with growth promoting proteins and carbohydrates so you can recover faster and kick-start your next workout into high gear!*

What's in Critical Reload?

Critical Reload contains a rapid absorbing protein blend of whey protein concentrate, hydrolyzed whey protein concentrate and milk protein isolate which stimulate muscle protein synthesis (growth & recovery) and prevents muscle breakdown for hours after exercise.* Additionally, Critical Reload contains a complex & simple carbohydrate blend of maltodextrin, fructose and sucrose that quickly optimizes glycogen (energy) replenishment in hard-working muscles thus, speeding recovery and helping to improve performance.*

Collegiate Compliant

Critical Reload™ is suitable for collegiate athletics and is permissible under NCAA** Bylaw 16.5.2.2 for nutritional supplements. To learn more about NCAA Bylaw 16.5.2.2 for nutritional supplements visit: www.ncaa.org

Variable Critical Reload Health & Performance Use

OPTION #1: To speed muscle recovery drink Critical Reload™ immediately after exercise to replenish depleted energy stores, stimulate muscle growth and facilitate quicker recovery between training & practice. This option is a must for any athlete! If you wait too long to refuel your body with proper nutrients, you will not recover properly, resulting in poor training adaptation and exercise recovery.

OPTION #2: To boost energy drink Critical Reload™ 30-minutes prior to exercise to boost energy, delay fatigue, & counteract muscle damage during exercise. This option works well if it has been more than 3-hours since your last meal prior to training.

OPTION #3: As a snack, drink Critical Reload™ between meals (i.e., breakfast/lunch, lunch/dinner) to boost metabolism, maintain blood sugar levels, decrease the likelihood of fat storage, sustain energy and performance. This option works well if your work, training and/or academic schedule doesn't afford you the opportunity to eat regularly every 3-4 hours.

Muscle Shield Reduces Oxidative Stress

Muscle Shield™ is scientifically formulated to combat the oxidative damage associated with free-radical formation that proliferate in the body during intense physical exercise which can affect an athlete's ability to perform optimally.

Free radicals cause oxidation inside your body and once formed start a chain reaction, like dominoes, damaging DNA, cell membranes and tissue. Additionally, research studies have shown that free-radical generation hurts athletic performance in two key ways:

1. Muscle fatigue, damage & soreness. Free-radicals are believed to contribute significantly to muscle damage, fatigue, exercise-induced muscle injury, inflammation and soreness in athletes. Minimizing muscle fatigue and proper recovery from prior intense physical activity are critical to achieve peak performance levels.

2. A high rate of free-radical production interferes with the body’s ability to produce energy efficiently by damaging cell mitochondria, small membrane-enclosed regions that produce the chemicals cells use for energy thereby contributing to premature fatigue & lack of energy or endurance.

To prevent free-radical damage the body must have a defense system of antioxidants. Antioxidants are molecules that scavenge and neutralize the chain reaction of free-radicals formation before they get a chance to harm you body. They get their name from their ability to inhibit oxidation, hence the name anti-oxidant meaning no oxidation.

Under normal conditions, muscle fibers are equipped with endogenous antioxidant enzymes that serve as an efficient defense system to prevent the damaging effects of free-radicals. However, moderate to intense physical exercise uses 12-20 times more oxygen than a person at rest. Such metabolic processes can overwhelm the body's natural defenses and push uncontrolled oxidation into the stratosphere, proliferating free-radical metabolism and generating extensive tissue and cell damage.

With the sheer oxygen used during intense training that is essential to excel in sport, aspiring athletes need the antioxidant power of Muscle Shield to quench free-radical formation, directly combat free radicals and potentiate endogenous antioxidants to reduce oxidative stress and restore normal function to all bodily tissues for optimal health and performance.
